Kokrajhar, Oct 2: The International Day of non-violence cum Gandhi Jayanti was observed today in Kokrajhar with various programs to mark the 152 birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) observed the day with various day long program to spread the message of ahimsah spread by Gandhi at Patgaon Higher Secondary school ground in Kokrajhar. Floral tribute was paid at the portrait of Gandhi followed by release of pigeon as a symbol of peace. A symbolic burning of arms with message of ‘say no to arm’ and a peace rally was also carried out.
ABSU president Dipen Boro said Absu has always believe in non-violence and follow the ideology of Gandhiji. He stressed the need of arms free society saying “Violence and arms struggle has been a major problem which has affected the BTR region along with other North East states in all aspect. The ABSU president call upon the civil society, youths, the worst sufferers to join hand to break the cycle of violence by reinforcing the culture of non-violent mantra in the society.
Director of Gandhi Bhawan, University of Delhi and Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Awardee Prof. Ramesh Chand Bhardwaj attended the function as chief guest.
