ABSU Opposes Four Language Formulation In The State


KOKRAJHAR, NOV 28: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has strongly opposed the four language formulation formulated by state government in the state and termed that the four language formula is not getting suited in today’s era and asked not to harass the young generations by imposing compulsory of four language methodology.

Addressing the reporters at a press conference held today at Bodofa House in Kokrajhar, ABSU president Dipen Boro and general secretary Khanindra Basumatary have expressed their concern over the policy and implementation of some of the decisions of the Assam government and appeal to review such decisions and to provide legitimate rights to all.

They said that the three language formula instead of four language in Assam- the government of Assam by the  governor notification dated 18th December( 2019); ordered for implementation of four language formula in Assam for Assamese, Bengali and Bodo medium in upper primary.

The students union has demanded intact available for three language formula instead of four language maintaining national policy for three language mother tongue, Hindi & English.

The students union leaders  said that the postgraduate teacher (PGT) TET recruitment- advertisement was published on 7th September last through online against 2272 posts of PGT teachers but none of the single candidates of the Bodo medium could apply for the posts.

Because there were no option for Bodo language for which our deserving candidates deprived from the opportunity.

They have said that when the students union raised the matter to government, chief  minister of Assam has assured us to create about 400 posts for Bodo medium by upgrading 40 Nos of existing High school and Higher secondary but this has not done yet.

On the NIPUN BHARAT, the student union said that the Mission Director office of Samagra Shiksha, Assam has published an advertisement on 7th October last for different posts of project management units state and district level of Consultant, Data analyst etc. under National initiative for proficiency in Reading with understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN BHARAT) as part of the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy in which it is clearly mentioned proficiency in Assamese and English only, with written and verbal. It is an act of clear negligence of the Bodo language that deprived Bodo students from this opportunity. As a recognized 8th schedule language and associate official language of Assam, the students union demand for inclusion of Bodo at the earliest.

In Assam Police Recruitment, the students union leaders said the Assam police the office of the chairman, state level police recruitment board, Assam mentioned Bodo language for written exam only in four districts of BTR.

Taking into account of the Bodo candidates availability in various districts of Assam the Union demand to conduct in Bodo language in the line of Assamese and English instead of only in BTR.

In Assam Judicial Service exam, the students union said that since 2009 the Assamese language optional is made compulsory for the candidates in the examination of Assam Judicial Service for which Bodo candidates has deprived from cracking the examination in last 12 years which is a clear negligence against Bodo language in the state.

The students union leaders demand for early inclusion of Bodo language along with Assamese to provide justice to our aspirant candidates. As the Assam government with Gazette Notification amended the Assam Official Language Act, 1960 and included Bodo as Associate Language of Assam due to the  inclusion of Bodo in Eight Schedule of the Indian Constitution and most of the state and central government offered Bodo in various competitive exam including UPSC.

In APSC qualifying paper (Language), the students union appeal to rethink the decision of withdrawing English, Assamese, Bodo & Bengali language from APSC exam and to reinstate the same in the line of UPSC syllabus.

In medical admission, the ABSU leaders said that in connection with the selection for MBBS admission of the non-bonafied category in the list of ST reservation, the Union demand for a special enquiry into the incident and provide justice to the aspirant genuine ST students.

The students union leaders demanded for early steps for solution of all those issues to the concerned authority and urge the  chief minister of Assam for special intervention on the matter.

Further, the Union will put its pressure and fight with peaceful democratic means to get justice.
