Assam Governor Prof Jagadish Mukhi Attends 2nd Convocation Ceremony Of Bodoland University


Kokrajhar, Feb 15: The 2nd convocation ceremony of Bodoland University was held at the University campus in Kokrajhar on Tuesday.

Governor of Assam Prof. Jagadish Mukhi attended the function and presided over the event. A total of 4171 graduates, postgraduates, diplomats and doctorates between the years 2019 and 2021 were conferred their degrees and diplomas by Prof. Jagadish Mukhi. The passed outs belong to various disciplines under the faculty of Arts, Science, Commerce and Management.

Earlier, the Governor inaugurated the Bodoland University guest house.

Prof Mukhi unveiled the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Children Park in Kokrajhar town. He also attended a meeting with the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) chief executive member and others at Bodoland Territorial Council secretariat.

Prof. Bidyut Chakrabarty, Vice Chancellor of Visva Bharati University, West Bengal attended the convocation as chief guest and delivered the Convocation. Bodoland Territorial Council Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro was also present at the august gathering as the Guest of Honor.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor congratulated the graduates. Prof Mukhi reiterated the vision of the New Education Policy towards an India-centred education system that contributes directly to transforming the nation sustainably into an equitable and vibrant.  He emphasized on moving beyond the boundaries of academic disciplines and academic institutions for a broader mental horizon.

Stressing the importance of inculcating the spirit of independent thinking and openness among its community of teachers, students and officers, the Governor exuded confidence that the Bodoland University would continue to grow, sustain its strengths and position as one of the most sought after destinations for students from across the region.

Established in 2009, Bodoland University is the only state collegiate university in the BTR along with the lower Assam region after Guwahati University. The university under its affiliation has a total of 57 colleges out of which 7 are B.Ed colleges, falling under the BTR region. The university has a total of 17 PG departments of English, Assamese, Bodo, Economics, Political Science, History, Education, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Physics, Geography, Biotech, Mathematical Sciences, Computer Science, Management Studies and Commerce and one UG department of Bamboo Technology. The university also offers diploma and certificate  courses in Human Rights Education, Bodo Studies, Mushroom Cultivation and Bamboo Studies.
