Awareness On ‘Child Rights Issues’ Held  In Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar, May 30: With the objective to create awareness and curb the wide spread prevalence of child marriages and child sexual abuse in the district, an awareness camp cum workshop on ‘Child Rights issues with focus on child marriage, child trafficking and child sexual abuse’ was held today at Patgaon Sijouguri in Kokrajhar on Sunday.

Organised by, Kokrajhar based NGO Nedan Foundation, representative from various organisations like ABSU, Boro Samaj, Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Mahila Samiti, village headman (gaonburas), guardians participated in the programme.

Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Kokrajhar Chairperson Malati Rani Narzary attended the programme as chief guest and spoke in length the issues related to crimes against children like child marriage, child sexual abuse, child labour etc. She also highlighted the measures of the government like Childline and Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and others that are aimed at protection of the child rights. She said it is the responsibility of the each and every elder of the society to protect the rights of the children.

Kokrajhar District ABSU Kampha Basumatary stressed on the need to organize such programme extensively in different parts of the districts among the public and local villagers.

Officer incharge of Serfanguri police station, District coordinator UNICEF Kokrajhar Padmini Brahma, coordinator of Childline Kokrajhar Dwimalu Narzary, Kwirw Brahma of Sakhi-One Stop Centre, DCPU (IC) Chaolao Brahma, also delivered speech on the subject.

The meeting stressed on the need to organize a mass scale awareness programme so that the people especially in the rural areas are enlightened about the demerits of child marriages.
The programme concluded with a promise to work united to safeguard and protect the right of every child.
