KOKRAJHAR, FEB 19: A day-long district level awareness generation programme on disability and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016 was organised by the Social Welfare department of Government of Assam and NGO Sishu Sarothi in association with Bodoland Territorial Council and Chirang DRDA here at the auditorium of Kajalgaon High School on Friday.
During the programme, in his inaugural speech Ringkhang Mashahary, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chirang said about the major issues relating to protection of RPwDs and importance of taking various social security schemes for them by the Social Welfare department along with other allied departments like DRDA, PWD, education etc with a view to provide better facilities and to fulfil the desire of them within the district. He hoped that after the awareness programme all stockholders, government officials and other participants would have a clear understanding about the RPwDs and strive towards for providing equal opportunities and facilities for them so that they could also live a life of dignity.
On the occasion, the Executive Director of Sishu Sarothi Ketaki Bardalai apprised the status of implementation of various provisions of RPwD Act, 2016 along with the activities so far being done by them for generating awareness on the act, its implementation status, redressal of problems faced by such people in the state.
She also south the cooperation of civil societies and different departments for successful implementation of the Act.
Considering proper implementation of RPwD Act in their offices, the Inspector of Schools Bijay Baishnab, Dr. Dwigendra Ramchiary, District Surveillance Officer, Health Services, SBI- RSETI Director Putul Brahma and DRDA Executive Engineer Arobinda Rabha apprised the gathering about various schemes for PwDs under their respective departments and assured of helping the PwDs as much as they could as per provisions of the Act.
