KOKRAJHAR, NOV 2: A day long Career Counselling cum Training Workshop for 195 interested youth residing near National Thermal Power Company (NTPC) Bongaigaon, Salakati with a view for creating employment opportunities was organised jointly by the CSR, CISF Wing of NTPC Bongaigaon, Salakati e-VOICE group of Helping Hands and Disha Classes at the CISF barrack of NTPC Bongaigaon in Kokrajhar district on Tuesday.
Karunakar Das, Business Unit Head of NTPC Bongaigaon inaugurated the programme in the presence of G.M.Thangzom, Deputy Commandant, CISF, NTPC Bongaigaon, Kirti Yadav, Asst. Commandant, CISF, Bhaskar Gupta, deputy general manager (DGM) for HR and members of the Disha Classes. Speaking on the occasion, Das stressed on three qualities required for selection of the youth in various competitive exams-discipline, awareness and dedication. He highlighted the fact that NTPC is providing this unique opportunity to the youth for a better life ahead. Books and study materials were also distributed to the participants of the workshop.
Later, Thangzom, Deputy Commandant, CISF, NTPC Bongaigaon and Kirti Yadav, Asst. Commandant, CISF gave a presentation on the recruitment tips and techniques for selection in various armed forces across the country. The students asked them questions and showed their interest in the training. Earlier Shri Diwakar Mishra and Shri Brahmananda Sama, employees of NTPC Bongaigaon spoke on the module of the classes to be given this year.
NTPC Bongaigaon e-VOICE team has always ensured the holistic development of the area and its focus through the Disha class has been to empower the local youth of the district through various employment avenues. Since 2019, the e-VOICE helping hands’ team through its Disha classes by NTPC employees have been imparting education for preparing the youth for various competitive exams in armed/ defence/state and central paramilitary forces with the physical training being imparted by CISF posted at the power station. The members of Disha Classes who are NTPC employees have devoted time beyond their office hours to educate and provide them guidance for the exams.
Various sports equipment, study infrastructure, etc., to students (both girls & boys) of nearby villages of Salakati, Kokrajhar are also provided from time to time for assisting and equipping them for various physical training activities. It is pertinent to mention that this is the fourth batch of students who will undergo the training for a month with 15 students being employed in armed forces in the state and centre. During COVID, the classes continued online through various modes.
EVOICE’ (Employee Voluntary Organizations for Initiatives in Community Development) aims to internalize the CSR agenda and employees from all fields are encouraged to volunteer various community-based programs. EVOICE’ formed by NTPC employees at various stations complement NTPC’s CSR initiatives. NTPC employees are contributing actively to more than 30 E-VOICE across the country.
