Kokrajhar, Sept 14: Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi today visited Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) headquarter Kokrajhar and held a review meeting with officials of various departments to monitor the ongoing projects in the four districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri at the BTC Secretariat conference Hall.
Talking to Reporters after the meeting, the Governor said that immediately after the imposition of Governor’s rule in BTC, several interventions were made to streamline service delivery in BTC. He said despite challenges posted by Covid and flood season, and within the limitations imposed by Model Code of Conduct in force in the BTAD, progress has been expedited in almost all ongoing schemes of Govt. of India as well as Govt. of Assam.
The Governor pointed to two major areas where remarkable success has been achieved i.e, Forest(conservation, protection and regeneration) and Land Revenue. He said that in regard to Forest, severe action against tree felling and illegal sand mining has been taken, plantation of more than 40 Lakh saplings has been done too as part of positive reinforcement. “A target of 40 lakh seedlings for plantation and distribution in BTAD while ensuring No-tree felling, illegal carriage and restoration of Green BTAD. In pursuit of the same, the department has carried out 44.14 Lakh plantation drive and distributed saplings– thus achieving a target of 110.35%. Of the same, Survival % is 82.54%. “Total 51Accused arrested in Forest Offences, 117 vehicles seized & 27 illegal Band Saw Mills seized. 5 New camps in advanced stage of sanction. Vehicles Purchase in advanced stage of sanction: 8 Boleros, 40 Motorcycles”
“In the area of Land Revenue, major exercise of updating and completing digitization of Revenue records was undertaken and as a result, land records of 3 districts are already updated and those of Baksa would also be completed within September. Online services have also been started in Kokrajhar and Chirang and will be started in all districts shortly, he said.
Clean Kokrajhar Green Kokrajhar campaign: As part of the clean and green Kokrajhar, intensive cleanliness drives have been taken up besides almost 25,000 saplings have been planted. 4 interdisciplinary committees consisting of Municipality Board officials, DC establishment, Police, PWD, etc, have been set up to carry out inspection and remove all obstructions in drains to get away with water logging and artificial flood control in Kokrajhar town. Moreover a software has been developed and pilot on providing municipal services in online mode has been started for digitization of municipal services.
The Governor said besides streamlining the functioning of BTC in a systematic way, I have also given a target to the officials on development activities, he added.
BTC Administrator Rajesh Prasad, Principal Secretary Siddharth Singh, senior civil and police administration including the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendent of Police of the four districts of BTC were present in the meeting.
The Governor also visited the undergoing site of Kokrajhar medical College to see the progress of the construction work.
