KOKRAJHAR, AUG 19: Assam cabinet minister for Handloom and Textile department Urkhao Gwra Brahma has announced for huge subsidies on purchasing of yarn for weavers across the state to extend little financial support in the state.
Addressing a press conference today at Bodofa Cultural complex in Kokrajhar, Assam cabinet minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma said that the Handloom and Textile department has decided to extend support to the weavers those are affected due to COVID situation in the state. He informed that ttate government has decided to extend increase of subsidy rate up to 30 % from 20% while purchasing the mallberry yarn for weavers.
He mentioned that on cotton yarn, state government has decided to make 50% subsidy for the weavers.
He said that There are 33 yarn bank across the state and present COVID-19 pandemic situation hitting the yarn bank in leading.
‘ In BTC, state government and Handloom and Textile department initiating to upift and development of the handloom sector for bringing livelihood earning opportunities among the weavers”, Brahma said adding that the traditional loom and attire would be uplifted and government will purchase traditional clothes through the ARTFED and 80 crores has been allocated from the state government.
He said that Handloom and Textile department is committed towards development across the state.
He said that the Handloom and Textile department will declare model village in BTC area as well state within few days. He said that state government has emphasised for building a healthy welfare and development of the weaving sector.
