KOKRAJHAR, AUG 10: As part of the Assam Chief Minister’s initiative towards building a healthy nation and malnutrition-free Assam, a Healthy Child Award distribution programme was held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Kokrajhar on Wednesday.
A total of seven healthy children under 30-Kokrajhar East (ST) LAC, 29- Kokrajhar West (ST) LAC and 28-Gosaigaon LAC were given Healthy Child Award in the programme organized by the Women and Child Development department, Kokrajhar in collaboration with Kokrajhar District Administration.
Kokrajhar East MLA Lawrence Islary, Gosaigaon MLA Jiron Basumatary, Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka were present on the occasion and presented the awards with a citatation, aronai, gamosa, toys and baskets of nutritious food items.
The mothers of the children and the respective Anganwadi workers were also felicitated on the occasion.
Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka said the main objective of the Healthy Children Award is to improve the nutrition of infants/children through increased social awareness and to mobilise community participation for health and nutritional issues in the state. She reiterated that with the combined efforts of all including administration, department and all stakeholders, the glaring issue of malnutrition could be resolved. She also explained regarding various initiatives including Poshan Clubs, Jwthwn/Khangnai, Onaini Nerswn (Sneha Sparsha), Smart Papa, Nutri Vatikas and Convergences with Kokrajhar mushroom under One District One Product which would help achieve nutrition for all.
In his speech, MLA Lawrence Islary emphasized the importance of having nutritious food for the good health of young children, adolescents, pregnant and lactating women. MLA Jiron Basumatary also spoke on the importance of nutritious food for the growth of children physically and mentally.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar, CHD of Social Welfare department, District Social Welfare Officer, Coordinator of Pohan Abhiyan, ICDS Supervisors, Anganwadi workers were among those present on the occasion.
