Kokrajhar DC Varnali Deka Selected For Jal Prahari Samman


KOKRAJHAR, MAR 28: Bringing yet another moment of pride to Assam, Assam’s daughter, Varnali Deka, Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar has now been selected for two National Level Honours, this time for efforts & innovations in the Water Sector under her leadership.

Deka has been invited by the Ministry of Jal Shakti to the 3rd National Water Award to be held on March 29, 2022 at the Plenary Hall of Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi to be graced by the President of India. This is in recognition of the innovative works & convergences done in the water sector from September, 2019 to January, 2021. She was serving as DC Goalpara at the time.

It is further a matter of honour and joy, Smti Deka has been selected for Jal Prahari Samman, 2022 giving due recognition to her efforts at the highest level. She was selected for this Award by a Selection Committee headed by the former Chief Justice of India and sitting Rajya Sabha MP Ranjan Gogoi for her innovative and unique ideas, convergences and projects resulting in Water conservation, water use efficiency in Agriculture, convergences in livelihood options, creating Jan Bhagidari in the water sector etc.

Smti Deka, DC, Kokrajhar, will be felicitated as a Water warrior of 2022 at the Jal Prahari Samaroh 2022 on the 30th of March by Hon Union Jal Shakti Minister, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat at the Constitution Club, New Delhi. The event is being organised by Sarkaritel along with Ministry of Jal Shakti and Jal Jeevan Mission, Government of India.

It is worth mentioning that this worthy daughter of Assam has brought accolades to the state on a number of occasions. A few days back she brought laurels to Assam for her brainchild – the innovative ‘Goalmart’ project which won the Gold at the National e-governance Awards. Smti Deka also received the Best District Election Officer Award from Election Commission of India for innovations in Election Management during the Assam Legislative Assembly Elections 2021. Smti Deka was amongst a handful of Civil servants from across the country selected for the multi-stakeholder symposium Imagine India @ 2047, held at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras for Civil servants, entrepreneurs and academia from 6th to 8th of March, 2022 an innovative event to boost technology-based solutions across various sectors to help realize the ‘Vision [email protected]’. Smti Deka has been assigned two of the most important sectors – Energy & Net Zero and Fintech & Inclusion wherein she, along with her team will work to conceptualise developments over the next three to twenty-five years. It is also a matter of immense honour for Assam that Smti Deka was the only IAS officer presenting on the first day of this august and electrifying forum on “Imagining India @ 2047: A field Perspective. The District Transitional Story and What it augurs for the Trajectory ahead” wherein she shed light on success stories of data driven & evidence based governance from the field, the success of India’s flagship Aspirational District Programme, emerging digital technologies for decentralizing governance, the need for transactional systems, interventions to stimulate rural economy beyond agriculture, Net Zero from the field & the synergistic spillovers from collaboration amongst stakeholders – Civil Servants, Academia, Entrepreneur, Civil Society and so on.
