Kokrajhar District Administration To Celebrate ‘District Day’ On 1st July 


Kokrajhar, June 29: Kokrajhar district administration has decided to observed 1st July as ‘District Day’ to celebrate the creation of Kokrajhar district.

It was on July 1, 1983, Kokrajhar was created as a separate district. Kokrajhar was originally a part of the undivided Goalpara district. It was craved out as a Civil Sub-division from the then Dhubri Sub-division of Goalpara district in 1957 and it was upgraded into a district on 1st July 1983.

A meeting in this regard was held under the chairmanship of Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka with the officials district administration and other departments in the presence presence of Hon MLAs of 30-Kokrajhar East (ST) LAC Lawrence Islary and 28-Gosaigaon LAC Jiron Basumatary, at the conference hall of the Deputy commissioner’s office on Wednesday.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held for programmes to celebrate the ‘District Day’ with widespread participation.

DEEO cum IS would hold singing and dance competition and extempore speech for school students. District Administration would hold online slogan competition (open to all residents of Kokrajhar) on the topic of Kokrajhar. Besides online paragraph writing competition on ‘Why we love Kokrajhar’ for students would be held.

In the Evening, Programme would be held with lighting of lamps, lecture sessions on the history of the District and detailed discussions with various groups, organisations and dignitaries.

Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka appealed to all Kokrajharians to participate in the District Day celebrations with full enthusiasm.
