Kokrajhar Media Team Meets Sikkim IPR Minister


Gangtok (Sikkim) Nov 22: A 14 members team from Press Club of Kokrajhar today met the Minister for Information & Public Relations, Tourism & Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim Bedu Singh Panth at Gangtok in Sikkim.

The delegation, led by President, Press Club, Kokrajhar, Monalisha Sarma, are on a three day exposure visit to the State of Sikkim.

The media exposure visit was organised by Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Chief Executive member Pramod Boro and Sikkim chief minister Prem Singh Tamang.

The visiting team were accorded a warm welcome by the Minister and Director, IPR Department, Benu Gurung. The Kokrajhar media team also felicitated the Minister and IPR department officials with Bodo traditional Aronai.

The delegation of the Press Club of Kokrajhar later had an interaction with the minister. The team expressed keen interest to understand the good practices of Sikkim and the developmental initiatives of the State Government.

The Minister B.S. Panth thanked the team for their visit to Sikkim.

He said that such exposure visits go a long way in understanding each other’s cultures and several other aspects important to the development of the region. He said there are lots of similarities between the people, culture, food habits of Sikkim and Bodoland. On the success story of organic farming in Sikkim, the minister said despite challenges, the organic farming has been successfully in Sikkim. He said there is lot of scope for organic farming in Bodoland Territorial Region as the land there is fertile and the Sikkim government is ready to provide expertise to the BTR government if needed.

The minister assured necessary logistical support to the visiting team to make their visit fruitful.
