KOKRAJHAR, OCT 11: A massive fire was gutted at Fakiragram bazar early this morning in Kokrajhar district today which left crores of properties damaged of the traders in the bazar.
Over 55 shops have been gutted completely in the fire and worth of approximately one crore proprieties were damaged.
The fire guts shop were included grocery, vegetables and several wholesales which were completely destroyed in the fire. The fire has been generated from electric shot circuit and took place around 3.10 am. However, reason of the fire is yet to be known.
A four fire tender from Kokrajhar rushed the spot to douse the fire, yet couldn’t save the fire and several shops totally ashed.
Notably, at-least six times fire have been reported in last ten years at Fakiragram bazar in Kokrajhar district and left huge properties of traders damaged.
Two months ago, several shops and residential complex were damaged due to fire along the main road near railway gate at Fakiragram bazar this year. Four persons of a family were charred to death at Fakiragram constituency main road due to fire guts in 2009.
“The Fakiragram bazar has been witnessing massive fire guts every year which has left huge cache damaged if the businessman and traders”, said a businessman at Fakiragram bazar.
Traders of the Fakiragram bazar staged a protest demonstration along the main road on demand of setting up of fire service station at Fakiragram, provide compensate to the damaged traders in the fire.
Later, the protest demonstration was withdrawal after deputy commissioner Phukan assured for magisterial inquiry into fire incident, setting up fire service station at Fakiragram, compensation for the damaged traders.
Traders of Fakiragram bazar have demanded investigation into fire and provide necessary compensation to the damaged traders. “I have lost all properties in the shop as fire had gutted in the bazar. I am now helpless as fire damaged all properties in my life. Dealing of grocery was my lifeline”, Jiban Ghosh a grocery owner.
“My chappal shop and other properties are totally ashed in the fire”, said Naznima Begum, a trader in Fakiragram bazar.
Deputy Commissioner(DC) Kokrajhar Bhaskar Phukan has announced a magisterial inquiry into massive fire gutted at Fakiragram bazar early this morning in Kokrajhar district. Kokrajhar DC Phukan, SP Rakesh Roushan, MLA from Kokrajhar West rushed the spot in the morning and took stock about incident.
Phukan said that an assessment over fire incident has started from revenue department and necessary compensation would be given to the fire victims traders.
SP Rakesh Roushan told that a temporary fire station would be set up at Fakiragram. He said that police administration has been taking strong initiative for necessary steps against the fire incident.
MLA from Kokrajhar West Rabiram Narzary rushed the spot and assure for necessary compensation to the damaged traders. Narzary has urged the state government and concern authorities to take necessary steps for setting up of fire service station at Gajibbur.
