KOKRAJHAR, MAY 12: The 34th death anniversary of Gaide Basumatary and Helena Basumatary, first Bodo women martyrs during the Bodoland movement was observed at Boshgaon Saraibil under Gossaigaon subdivision as “Mother’s Day” in Kokrajhar district on Thursday.
The Bodo community has been observing “Mother’s Day” every year on 12th May to mark the death day of Gaide Basumatary and Helena Basumatary, who sacrificed their lives for the caused of Bodoland movement in 1988.
Both women were regarded first Bodo women martyrs amongst the Bodo society during the Bodoland movement.
The day was organised by All Bodo Women’s Welfare Federation (ABWWF) central committee in association with Kokrajhar district committee of ABWWF and Kachugaon anchalik committee of ABWWF.
President of the federation Dipali Narzary hoisted federation flag at half mask on the occasion followed by rich floral tribute to the Gaide Basumatary and Helena Basumatary at the martyr tomb by former ABWWF president Mithinga Basumatary.
A delegation team of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) led by it’s secretary Rangina Borgoyary graced the occasion and paid rich tribute to the martyrs.
While recalling contributions of Gaide Basumatary and Helena Basumatary, she said that both Bodo women sacrificed their lives to the caused of the Bodoland movement.She said that the ABSU and Bodo society has been observing the day as “Mother’s Day” to recall their contributions during the Bodoland movement.
She said that ABSU and Bodo women community were part of the Bodoland movement and contributed a lot and accordingly come in today’s juncture.
“We must pay respect and keep alive ideology and dedication of the martyrs who laid their lives during the Bodoland movement”, Rangina Borgoyary added.
