National Handloom Day Celebrates In BTR

KOKRAJHAR, AUG 7: The 8th National Handloom Day and Mega Weavers Meet-2022-23 was celebrated with day-long programme scheduled at Integrated Textile Park, Kharuajan near Mushalpur in Baksa district on Sunday.

The event was organised by Government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) government in association with Handloom & Textile department.

The event saw an attractive showcased of locally weaven clothes by local artisans and attracted to the attending chief guest as well guests that mark the celebration of 75 years of Azadi Ka Amrith mahotsov across the region.

Union minister of State for Textile and Railway department, Darshana Vikram Jardosh graced as chief guest on the occasion of National Handloom Day celebration.

During the event,best weavers were conferred award, Peheshan cards, weaving training certificates were distributed among the weavers by union minister.

Minister Jardosh also planted a sapling at the Integrated Textile Park complex followed by Assam cabinet minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Jayanta Malla Baruah, BTR CEM Pramod Boro also planted saplings on the occasion.

In her speech, minister Jardosh said that handloom and textile is our identity and developmental aspects of the peoples of the region as well country. She has emphasised for exploring the handloom and textile sector across the state through which local artisans and weavers are getting opportunities for earning livelihood. She said that the locally produced textile clothes are always getting priorities in marketting with vocal for local products.

She said that the Textile ministry is fully committed to work for the welfare and development of the handloom sector that has been emphasizing for bringing healthy earning livelihood.

She said that the centre government is fully committed with rendering services to make more developmental aspects of the textile.

She has urged the local artisans of Bodoland region to produce massively the Cotton & Silk to create a space of earning livelihood opportunities among the citizens.She has lauded the attractive and colourful Bodo attires like Dokhona, Aronai, Jwmgra, Eri silk etc which gains strong identity of the Bodo community.

Minister Jardosh has announced to 50 crores financial assistance to the Integrated Textile Park Kharuajan of Baksa to make more developmental infrastructure in Bodoland region.

She also opined that the union government has stepped up for setting up handloom village in various places across the Bodoland region and centre is proposing to sanction several thousand crores of financial assistance to the BTR government in days to come.

Minister Jardosh expresses her happiness and gratitude to the BTR government and organisers for organizing the national handloom day in Bodoland region.

She said that the union government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working dedicatedly towards the welfare and uplift of all sections of the society across the country. She has emphasised that there is double engine government in the state and BTR government that paving the healthy welfare and going smooth.

She also announced that the Udalguri & Kokrajhar railway station would be connected with handloom with attractive tourist themes to explore the handloom products.

BTR CEM Pramod Boro said that there are over 3 lakh weavers are involved with the handloom and weaving sector across the region. The BTR government so far initiated Bodoland Handloom mission, especially Bodoland region is rich on handloom with locally found products.

” Handloom is our identity, handloom is our culture and tradition through which we are getting opportunities to create healthy earning space”, Boro said adding that the Assam state is regarded as the highest potential strength in the handloom sector.

Assam minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma while welcoming the union minister of state to the celebration of national handloom day said, ” Your presence in the celebration, have encouraged more and more production of handloom products across the Bodoland region.

We are hopeful that the BTR region is getting more developmental aspects through the spirit of the central government in the state of Assam and Bodoland”.

Assam cabinet minister Jayanta Malla Baruah said, “I congratulation to all citizens,weavers of Bodoland region on the occasion of National Handloom Day”.

Handloom sector helps to earn warm livelihoods among the citizens in the region. The state government and BTR government have jointly working dedicatedly towards the welfare and development of the handloom sector to make more ushering”.

He said that the handloom sector brings self sustainable and healthy living of the citizens as Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi have been coming forward to extend support to the weavers across the country.

Meanwhile, the state handloom expo-2022-23 with two week long programmes began from Sunday at the Integrated Textile Park Kharuajan in Baksa district.

Among others,BTR speaker Katiram Boro, BTR deputy CEM Gabinda Chandra Basumatary, MLAs Lawrence Islary, Jayanta Basumatary, Bhupen Boro, BTR executive members Rakesh Brahma, Ghanashyam Das, Gautam Das, Ukil Mushahary, Reoreoa Narzihary, Diganta Baruah were prominent attendees on the occasion.
