KOKRAJHAR, DEC 21: A Ganja smuggler has reportedly recieved bullet injuries at a police encounter at Bishmuri area in Kokrajhar district early this morning.
According to police, the incident took place at Bishmuri under Kokrajhar police station early this morning around 1 am when the Ganja smuggler tried to flee from the policy custody who was arrested on Monday along with his associate at Srirampur Simultapu along the Assam-Bengal interstate border check gate.
The police have resorted to fire at him when he tried escape from the hands of police and recieved bullet injuries.
He was identified as Harendar Yadav(28) under Reboti PS, Bolia of Uttar Pradesh.
The injury Ganja smugglers was immediately rushed to the Barpeta medical college and he is now said to be out of danger, who received bullet injuries on his right leg.
Notably, police on Monday detected a truck bearing registration no. WB 11C 3219 bound for West Bengal from Guwahati carrying Ganja weighing of 308 Kilograms and accordingly two persons were apprehended by police for involved with illegally carrying Ganja.
The police later seized the Ganja and truck. The market value of the seized Ganja would be approximately 78 lakhs.
The another arrested person was identified as Mahesh Yadav (60) who is hailed from Uttar Pradesh.
Meanwhile, a fire incident took place at Simaltapu police outpost area on a vehicle bearing Reg NO-WB 11 C 3219 as a result the vehicle has markedly burned and later on fire & emergency services controlled the fire. The seized Ganja was recovered from the truck.
Police officials expressed their suspect that the Ganja smugglers allegedly torched the truck in the scope of deep dark of night.
Police administration has started it’s investigation into the incident.
“Police has been initiating a strict step against the crime activities like drugs pedling, Ganja smuggling, cattle smuggling across the district. Till date, police arrested many persons, seized drugs/ Ganjas across the district”, said SlP Kokrajhar Prateek Thube.
