KOKRAJHAR, AUG 31: Intensifying a strict step against the timber smuggling, forest official and police seized a laden truck with teak logs and arrested two persons for involved with illegally carrying valuable logs via national highway in Kokrajhar district.
Forest department officials detected a truck in a naka checking at Karigaon national highway on Sunday night and found that nearly 300 shiepti of Segun logs inside the truck.
The truck was bound for Kolkata from Bornihat of Meghalaya which was bearing registration number RJ 27-GC 1603.
The truck laden with Segun logs was detected in the naka checking and accordingly brought to the forest colony office in Kokrajhar.
Market value of the seized Segun logs would be approximately 9 lakhs.
The arrested two persons were identified Prabhulal Goyri (33) of Rajasthan and Lakbhinder Singh (30) of Punjab.
The forest department have seized the truck as well Segun logs and kept under forest department custody.
Forest ranger of Gaurang range, Alok Pathak told that the Segun logs were smuggled by timber mafias illegally which was detected by forest department.
He said that forest department has been stepping strict step against the timber smuggling cases across the region. He said that the arrested two persons have been sent to the jail after a proper verification and inquiry.
He said that forest department and local police administration are jointly taking strict checking on the timber smuggling incidents.
Pathak said that forest department officials have initiated strong steps against the logs smuggling.
He has denied the allegations of releasing the detected truck, said that the releasing of detected truck was invalid and baseless and said that the seized truck is still with the forest department.
