KOKRAJHAR, OCT 13: Sangeet Natak Award winner and imminent Bodo traditional dance & music specialist Khirod Khakhlari breathed his last today due to age ailments at Guwahati Medical College & Hospital in Guwahati.
Khakhlari was popularly well known among the citizens in the state for his education towards the uplift and welfare of the traditional Bodo dance & music.
He was admitted to the hospital two-day’s ago and expired this afternoon around 12.20 pm.
Khakhlari’s contributions towards the end and development of the Bodo traditional dance & music are endless.
He had established the Bathou Afat Kristi Sangha, a cultural organization based in Guwahati and he trained many artists in the traditional Bodo dance and music.
Khakhlari was awarded Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2005 for his contribution to Bodo dance and music in his life. He was 96.
Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) chief executive member Pramod Boro has extended his condolence and deep mourning over the demise of imminent dance & music scholar, Khirod Khakhlari.
Various organisations including Bodo Sahitya Sabha, All Bodo Students Union have expressed their deep condolence over the expire of Khirod Khakhlari.
In a press statement, ABSU president Dipen Boro and general secretary Khanindra Basumatary said that the students union expresses deep condolences on the demise of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee Khirod Khakhlari.
” The ABSU has deeply pained and words are of no help in expressing the sorrow that the students union feel at this moment and sincere condolences to the bereaved family. Late Khirod Khakhalry practiced traditional Bodo dance and music and he was considered to be of the most accomplished exponents of Bodo dance and music. He had given numerous performance with his troupe all over the country”, the students union leaders said.
” To propagate Bodo dance & music, he had established the Bathou Afat Kristi Sangha, a cultural organization based in Guwahati and he trained many artists in the traditional Bodo dance and music. Khirod Khakhlari received Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2005 for his contribution to Bodo dance and music. He may be parted on earth but his devotional contribution and love will live on for eternity and the students union will forever be remembered his genuine spirit.
” Eternal rests grant unto him and let perpetual light shine upon him and departed soul rest in peace”.
Bodo Sahitya Sabha president Toren Boro and general secretary Prasanta Boro while extending deep condolence, said that the Bodo and other indigenous communities have lost a great cultural organiser with death of Khakhlari.
Bodo Kochari Welfare Autonomous Council chief executive member Mihiniswar Basumatary and Executive Member Anil Basumatary have also extended their deep mourning over the demise of Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee Khirod Khaklary.
The Boro Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council expresses deep sorrow over the demise of Khirod Khaklary aged 96 above, Sangect Natak Akademi Award received in 2005 of Kalyankuchi, Dalbari, Satgaon, Guwahati today at around 12.20 pm today who was a great organizer leader in the field of cultural activities and he also had an enormous contribution towards the field of folk culture/ music in the State of Assam and National level. His demise is a great loss for the Bodos as well as the People of Assam.The Boro Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) condolences and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul in heavenly abode, the leaders said.
