Kokrajhar, April 24: The 5th triennial conference of the Kokrajhar district All Assam Tribal Sangha (AATS) was held today at Swrang High School premises in Kokrajhar district with a daylong programme.
As per the programme, president of Kokrajhar Kokrajhar Tribal Sangha Chakramoni Brahma hoisted the organisational flag followed by 14 primary committees while Sangha vice president Lokendra Mushahary paid homage to martyrs.
Later an Open meeting was held where All Assam Tribal Sangha president Sukumar Basumatary attended as chief guest. Kokrajhar East MLA Lawrence Islary, BTC member Danesar Goyary, former Tribal Sangha president Ranjit Kumar Borgoyary and representative from various organisations including Bodo Sahitya Sabha, ABSU, Rabha Students Union, Garo Students Union, Harimu Afad and others attended as guests.
During the delegates session, various issues related issues including on implementation of Scheduled Tribe and other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognisation of Forest Right) Act. 2006, eviction of all illegal encroachers from tribal belts and blocks area and filling up of backlog vacancies meant for scheduled tribes in various state govt department etc were discussed The tribal body urged the state government to do the needful for the interest of indigenous tribal communities of Assam.
A 14 member new committee of Kokrajhar district Tribal Sangha with Anil Ch Wary as president and Sonjit Basumatary as general secretary was constituted.
