Two Elephant Tusker Smugglers Arrested, Recovered Tuskers in Chirang

KOKRAJHAR, OCT 18: Two persons arrested for allegedly smuggled elephant tuskers at Amguri forest area in Chirang district on Saturday evening. Accord to police, getting information from a reliable source about smuggling of elephant tuskers at Amguri area, a search operation was carried out late last night and able to detect the elephant tuskers smuggling team. The police team was led by additional SP Chirang, Prakash Medhi and associated with Runikatha circle inspector Rustam Raj Brahma. The smugglers were arrested and recovered two pieces of elephant tuskers when they were traveling in a vehicle along the Indo-Bhutan border area under Amguri police station in Chirang district. They have been identified as Rahul Basumatary (33) and Kankan Narzary (34) of Amguri in Chirang district. Two Elephant Tusker Smugglers Arrested The police team also seized a vehicle bearing registration no. AS01AG-9780, a scooty registration no. AS26B-4792, mobile handsets and cash money of Rs. 3220/- from their possession.
Two other involved smugglers were reportedly escaped from the site. The smugglers tried to carrying out the elephant tuskers for the black market in a huge amount of exchange. “Police administration has been taking strong initiative to root out the smuggling vases in the area and accordingly able to detect the smuggling tuskers”, said a senior police officer in Chirang. Notably, few days ago Kokrajhar police nabbed four persons along with smuggled elephant tuskers at Kachugaon area.
