KOKRAJHAR, Nov 20: The 19th Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award-2022 was conferred to eminent journalist and Human rights activist Palagummi Sainath at a ceremonial programme held at Bodofa Cultural complex in Kokrajhar today.
Organised by the Upendra Nath Brahma Thrust (UNBT) and All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), the chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Council Pramod Boro, Assam Cabinet Minister, State Information Commissioner Samudra Gupta Kashyap. attended the function and handed over the citation, a memento and Rs 1 lakh cheque.
Receiving the award, Sainath expresses his happiness in receiving the award.
Dr Subung Basumatary chairman of UNBT said that for his relentless contributions in the field of journalism, especially towards highlighting the agrarian and rural issues of the downtrodden people, the Trust has decided to honour Sainath with the UN Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award, 2022.
Recipient of various awards including Ramon Magsasay award for journalism, literature and creative communication arts in 2007, Fukuoka Grand prize, one of Japan’s most prestigious international awards, Sainath was given the award for his passionate commitment as a journalist to restore the rural poor to India’s national consciousness.
Bodo Sahitya Sabha president Toren Boro, Absu president Dipen Boro were among those present.
